Abstract
Objective: In order to compare the effects on gingival health between micro-vibratory electric toothbrush and a hand toothbrush, a clinical test was performed.

Methods: 60 volunteers in their 30's to 40's who visited the dental clinic in the early stage of periodontal problems participated in this study. CPI, PMA, and GCF were measured after dividing the subjects into 2 groups: the experimental group that used the vibratory electric toothbrush and the control group that used the hand toothbrush, at the baseline, and 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 8 weeks after the baseline, in order to compare the data according to the length of time the toothbrushes were used.

Results: There was a decreasing tendency in the CPI, PMA, and GCF index in both the experimental group and in the control group from the baseline to 8 weeks (p£¼0.05), but there were no statistically significant differences between them (p£¾0.05). CPI showed statistically significant decreases from week 4 to week 8 in both groups (p£¼0.05), but otherwise insignificant. PMA decreased with significance from week 2 to week 8 in the experimental group (p£¼0.05), and from week 4 to week 8 in the control group.

Conclusion: The micro-vibratory electric toothbrush is recommended for use in the early stage of gingivitis as it showed significant differences in the short term (2 weeks) compared to the use of the hand toothbrush, but both types of toothbrushes are recommended for use in the long term to promote gingival health.
